Oogie Boogie!

I have been waiting for October to wear this glow-in-the dark Nightmare Before Christmas* inspired shade. I found Funky Fingers Oogie Boogie at Five Below in July and just could not leave it! I found recently that Hot Topic also carries similar (they look IDENTICAL) polish shades in their skull bottles. I also found Dia De Muertos. I would say you are better off with Five Below since two or three only cost you $5, where Hot Topic Charges that per bottle!

Anyways, Oogie Boogie is a glow-in-the dark glitter topper. The sheer slimy green base houses various shapes and sizes of light green glitter. The base is fairly sheer so I decided to layer over a similar base colour, China Glaze Be More Pacific.

I applied one coat of Be More Pacific, and two to three coats of Oogie Boogie. I applied what I thought was topcoat and took these pics. I was having some trouble wth keeping this mani on my nails! It just wanted to rub right off, I was so confused, I never have issues like this worth Seche Vite, it must be the glitter, I thought. I waited a bit longer for it I dry but it was a lost cause! It literally wiped right off the nail.

I blamed it I the polish until I double checked my top coat, I had noticed during application it was a bit thicker, could this be why...? Turns out I used Seche Clear instead of Seche Vite! Not only did I use a base coat as a topcoat but it was thick and sticky. Unfortunately I only realized this after taking everything off and applying a whole new mani (with the base coat as a top coat...).

I will have to try this again, maybe wit a more Oogie Boogie theme or nail art. I took a blurry pic of the glow-in-the dark effect. It was glowy, bit I feel like Dia De Muertos was brighter with little effort.

Moral of the story... ALWAYS check you are using the proper base and top coats!

*The Nightmare Before Christmas is NOT a Halloween movie, it is a Christmas movie! However characters such as Oogie Boogie, Jack, Sally etc. live in Halloween town and makes it perfectly appropriate to wear during the month of October :)

Dia De (Los) Muertos

Happy October!

You know in this post when I mentioned that I had worn Sinful Colors, Blue La La for over two weeks? Well this is how I dressed it up in to the second week.

Enter Funky Fingers, Dia De Muertos (although I feel like it should be Dia De Los Muertos?).

Funky Fingers polishes have me soooo hooked, especially their glitters. I can't help but purchase some of them based off of the name alone. I can just picture what they are going for with the name and colour/glitter of the polish. In this case, in my head I see a black light lit sugar skull!

Sinful Color's Blue La La matching the translucent base of Dia De (Los) Meurtos was the perfect combo. DDM has a sheer cornflower base with various sizes of shiny blue glitter and matte, hot pink hex and bar glitter. Did I also mention that it glows in the dark?!

DDM applied so well to the nail, glitters were evenly distributed, what you see is one coat! I blobbed a bit on the nail to move the glitters around with surprisingly little effort. The glow of this polish in the dark is AWE-SOME! Considering I only applied one thin (blobby) layer, the glow factor is  bright, especially over a darker colour! I am super impressed with this polish, I can't wait to try the other I purchased with this, Oggie Boogie.

Zom-body to love

Happy Friday, its the last one before halloween! I had been searching for a full sized bottle of this polish all of October last year, so I just knew I had to wear it this year. I found OPI Zom-body To Love during the summer AND on sale, you can read more about that in this post.

Zom-body To Love is a sheer green glow in the dark polish. I had attempted to build up a glow in the dark polish on its own last year and it didn't work out that well so this year I decided to layer it over a similar polish. Lucky me, one I just happened to buy on impulse was a perfect match! Shown in my nails is two coats of Zom-body To Love over Essie Mojito Madness.

It dried to a semi-matte finish so I added a coat of Seche Vite for some gloss. The glow in the dark particles add depth to the colour and if you look close enough in real life it looks as if it adds a little sparkle as well.

So how well does it glow? See for yourself:

It was practically impossible for me to move fast enough after charging the polish to focus perfectly on it with my camera in the dark! I have gotten close in the past but just gave up this time lol. A blurry, glowy photo is close enough :)

Can Anybody Find Me...

I've found Zom-body to Love!! ... That is all lol

I had been lemming this around Halloween but could not find the full single bottle anywhere! I only found the double packs with black shatter or the Halloween minis. So happy to find this, but under weird circumstances, see the bottom?

Not for retail sale, huh. I picked this up at Trade Secrets and they had a bunch. The price sticker was marked as overstock and I got it for half price so I shouldn't complain, still sketchy though.

Also it glows!! ... sorry, too lazy to set up the camera for a glow photo lol

Glowy Mosaic

I don't know how I got the idea to mix these two polishes together but I'm glad I did! Below is the final look with a top coat.

After the two coats of the blue glow-in-the dark polish from yesterday I added a generous coat of Wet n' Wild's Correction Tape and let it dry. To add some depth I applied another coat of the blue glow-in-the dark polish with a second coat of glitter and a final coat of  the blue!

You still following me!? I added the two coats of blue glow polish in between the glitter to add some depth and give the finish a frosted window look.

To finish everything off I added a coat of Seche Vite and had no issues with dry time considering how many coats I used!! The glow polish was pretty great to work with, it dried super quick so I didn't experience bubbling or anything. I just realized the glitter is a fast dry too lol. I'm sure that must have helped a bit too.

It reminded me of some sort of tile mosaic, maybe because of the square shaped glitter. It also reminded me of a rubber ball lol. My sister said they reminded her of Easter Whoppers!

Glow Worm!

I spotted these glow-in-the dark polishes at Winners around Halloween and just had to have them! The brand is Color Zone, I've never really seen them any place other than Winners but they glow pretty well! Unfortunately they do not have names :(

Today I have the blue from the three pack I got which included a hot pink and a sheer green glitter. Most glow-in-the dark polishes are fairly sheer, and although this one was too it built up pretty nicely! In the photos I have today I used only two coats. As you can see it dries to a matte finish.

Still pretty sheer right? No matter, I planned on building it up for a glowy, glitter sandwich! Here's how it looks in the dark, a total of four coats of the glow polish.

Halloween Nail Art Attempts - Part 2 + Glow in the Dark Comparison!

Today I have the second attempt of nail art I did over the weekend. I call this an "attempt" as I was not really happy with the final outcome. I love the idea, but I had some issues that I will discuss coming up.

The main idea was to have a glow in the dark manicure with a cool design on top. In order the get the best glow, I used a while polish for my base. I used 2 coats of Sally Hansen Salon's All the White Stuff. To make my mani glow I used my Sally Hansen glow in the dark polish because out of all the ones I own, this one seems to glow the best. I applied 2-3 coats.

Now, here is where it gets tricky... I picked a fauxnad plate with circle designs that look a bit like eyeballs and started stamping. Unfortunately, I got what I paid for from this Konad dupe plate, as it was really hard to pick up the full design. That combined with the base nail polish being not fully set is what made this a fail. Although I actually got through it and even finished it off with rhinestones, it still didn't look right to me. The only polish that would stamp properly was not a true black like the Konad polish which happened to be to thick to get in to the tiny intricacies of the design. I think if I had waited a day in between applying the polish and stamping it would have came out better. What do you think?

I also have a quick comparison of the glow in the dark polishes I own, from left t right I have Sally Hansen New Lengths Ceramics, Wet N' Wild Fantasy Makers, N.Y.C Frightful Fingers and a random polish from Dollar Giant (Which is now been bought out by Dollar Tree in Canada) This is obviously how they look in the bottle normally.

And here they are in the dark.

I have a feeling that the Sally Hansen and N.Y.C polishes are the exact same. I got them from the same place and at the time they were distributed, they were so out of Del Laboratories. Out of the 4 I own, these 2 have the best glow, I'd suggest 2-3 coats over a light colour for the best results.

The Wet N' Wild has an impressive glow also, but not so much in the photo. This is because all of the glow particles have settled to the bottom, and unless you shake it vigorously for who knows how long, you will not get the glow . Its funny how you can see the bottom of the bottle glowing though lol. I got this one last year, so I wonder if this years batch is different? The cute bottle obviously makes up for it though ;) When I used this last year I only applied 2 coats.

The dollar store polish comes in last for me. Besides smelling super bad, you need too many coats to get this one to glow. I think I needed at least 4 and it still wasn't as glowy as the others :(
