Target Polish Clearance!

You MUST check out Target if you are a polish fanatic like me! Unfortunately I don't live close to a Target, and I was actually visiting last week for a return from December. I decided to have a quick look around the store and noticed clearance bins with discounted cosmetics, most being polish!

 photo IMGP8099_zps7abeeeb7.jpg

The brands I spied included various Sally Hansen collections, Nicole by OPI, Sinful Colors, and Kiss. I saw a sales lady passing by and asked if there were any additional items on clearance, she said that what I was looking through was the overstock! All the other sale items have been marked in their original display sections! What I ended up finding was almost every brand of polish was reduced to some degree, from $3.00 to 69 cents! .

Have a look at what I picked up! From Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri line, Lickety-Split Lime ad Instant Iris. I pick these up for stamping for a steal of $1.15 each.

I could not resist at least one Sinful Color at 69 cents! I chose Cloud 9, a bright yellow based orange with golden shimmer.

Swatches of the three polishes above below, one coat each of the Insta-Dri's and two coats of Cloud 9.

Next I picked up some glitter bombs from Sally Hansen's Gem Crush line, Glitz Gal, Lady Luck and Razzle Dazzle. These were under $2 each.

My swatches below are two coats each.

I pick and chose wisely this time, I didn't want to go too crazy! I wish there were more Insta-Dris on clearance, I love them as a base for nail art and stamping.

So as  you can see I am still blogging directly from my desk today, photos and all! Here is a look (from inside) to part of my back yard where I usually take my photos. Don't let the sun fool you, it is VERY cold out this week! What is your preference for photos, indoors or outdoors?

Have you been to target lately? What polish was reduced at your store? If you are in the States I'd love to hear about selection and pricing, I will be heading there on Sunday :) First crossboarder shopping trip of the year!

Clean Splat!

Woo! I leave for vacation today! I have a bunch of posts scheduled, so lets hope blogger works for me while I am away. By the time most of you read this I will be up in the air flying south, I cannot wait!

Back to regular scheduled blogging...

I'm pretty sure if dexter ever killed a clown this is the blood splat it would leave behind lol. Today I have a pretty cool DIY nail decal idea I'd like to share. Remember these nails, I loved the look but the splatter it was super messy, it involved a lot of clean up plus I wasted polish when I missed the nail! The napkin I placed below my nails to prevent the polish splatter from ruining my desk gave me an idea.. it looked so cool, a great mix of all the colours. I thought to myself, what if I do the same process on plastic, blowing polish with a straw randomly in different colours and peel of as nail decals?

 photo IMGP6818_zpsc3efcedc.jpg

Honestly it was that easy. This is what you need if you'd like to try the same:

- plastic sandwich bag
- a straw
- an assortment of polish colours
- a clear topcoat
- tweezers

Step one - Choose your polish colours.
Step two - Apply polish to the end of the straw or dip it in to the polish bottle. Be carefully, you don't want to much Polish on the straw.
Step three - Blow!

Step four - Continue this process until you have a good portion of the bag covered with drips and drops of polish. You don't want it to be too saturated.
Step five - Let the polish dry. I let it dry over night if you can.
Step six - Once the polish is dry apply a clear top coat over the splatters. Random sections are good, they will dry faster.

Step seven - Wait for the top coat to dry.
Step eight - Once the clear polish is dry (completely dry works best, give it a few hours if you can, it will be easier to work with), use your tweezers to gently pull u a strip of the design.
Step nine - Position and place on the nail, press down to make it stick in to place.
Step ten - Apply a thick layer of top coat.

Thats it! pretty easy and quick, something you can do the day before and really takes no time at all. I love creating my own nail strips, every nail unique and it looks like a lot more time was spent. Anybody can do it :)

Clean and Fresh

Today I have a super basic mani with a favourite polish of mine, Sally Hansen Whirlwind White. You may notice I stamp a lot with this polish, it is thick, pigmented and quick drying with is also perfect to wear on it's own! I have two bottles, I used the newer bottle on my nails after attempting to use my "stamping" bottle and having a bit of a hard time with the thickness.

I could have gotten away with one carefully applyed coat, but decided to even everything out with a thin second. This polish is awesome, if you love white nails, This is a must! Great application, quick dry time and a great shine all on its own.

The only drawback some may find is the brush, it is a little thick and bristley. With the brand new bottle I applied I had very little issues with application, however, the older bottle I use for stamping was difficult because the polish is thicker. I got crazy brush strokes. I'm sure thinner could help, but this brush is definitely not my favourite.

Bows!

A simple mani refresh today. Just stamped some bows from my Konad dupe plate M59. I believe I picked this up from Born Pretty Store.

To stamp I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Whirlwind White.

The Finger Paints polish is still not colour accurate :( It's actually more of a fuchsia neon.

Fish Scales

Another sea related nail post... Surprised!? lol I think I have gotten it out of my system now. Since Revlon's Ocean Breeze had a slight duochrome I thought it would be the perfect base of a fish scale/mermaid tail inspired mani.

I had my eye set on plate RA-111 from Red Angel's latest collection from before I even purchased them! To stamp the pattern I used my new Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Jumpin' Jade. I love how the Insta-Dri polishes work with stamping, so perfect. Plus I picked this up for one dollar at the Dollar Tree! Not bad for a stamping polish ;)

This one almost even looks like dragon scales or something! I really love this pattern and will have to try it again soon :)

Happy Friday, have a good weekend!

Small Haul

Hello, hello. Last week was a slow week for me post wise. I didn't really have any new nails to share and was short on time. I did however pick up some polish over the weekend that I'd like to share.

I snatched up a couple more Nabi's including another magnetic. From left to right I have Wine and Clear RoundG Glitter.

While in the states over the weekend I spotted some Sally Hansen Diamond Strength and Insta-Dri polishes at the dollar tree. Unfortunately they were not in the same double packs as the Nail Prisms they were single packs. I picked up Jumpin' Jade.

I was hoping to find the new summer neons display from China Glaze at Sallys, and I did... With only one polish left! Luckily it was one if the many I wanted, Orange You Hot? I hope to acquire a good portion of the rest of this collection very soon :)

Doppelgängers! Featuring China Glaze Strawberry Fields

Oops, accidentally posted this for 9:30 PM, not AM, just realized now. Sigh... long day today! here's my post anyways!

Today I have another installment of Doppelgängers! I purchased this next polish specifically because it reminded me of China Glazes Strawberry Fields, but I didn't realize how close they really were until I swatched them side by side.

I found this Sally Hansen polish at a liquidation warehouse type store a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure how readily available it is now, but it's called Tip Toe Tulip. Since you all know what Strawberry Fields Looks like, let me describe Tip Toe Tulip for you; it has a deep pink/magenta base with a golden sheen of micro shimmer. Although they are not glass flecks, they are still very pretty. Here they both are in the bottle.

Now let's see some closeups! First is Strawberry Fields.

Next we have Tip Toe Tulip. Both of these bottle shots were taken in direct sunlight.

Here they both are again at 1 coat. Left to right, Strawberry Fields and Tip Toe Tulip.

2 coats,

And 3 coats.

I think it's easy to see the differences in these polishes. Although very similar, the glass flecks sets them apart from one another. Tip Toe Tulip's shimmer is also not as prominent as Strawberry Feilds.

I wonder when this polish was first released, it's in the old insta-dri bottle, I can't remember when exactly they switched over. Such a great shade, either polish!

Polish Gifts For Christmas

Happy Friday!! Don't you love short weeks :)

I actually got polish this year for Christmas!! I'll get right in to it, this post is already late enough!

My boyfriend and sister both got me this Birds of a Feather kit, I ended up exchanging one in return for some other polishes. This kit includes Peacock, Lucky Duck and Foul Play. I already own Merry Midnight, but just love it so much!! Expect a comparison soon. It came with a cute purple wristlet with real birds feathers on it :)

Next I got this cute mini Witchcraft crackle polish kit from my aunt as a stocking stuffer. The only colour I already have is white, but the other 3 actually crackle very well and look really nice. They were not named unfortunately. My sister got the same kit, but it came with different colours, I think it was black, red, silver and pink.

While in the States Last month, I helped "Santa" pick up some stocking stuffers at Ulta when they had their 10 for $10 promo going on, from Left to right I got Envy, Concrete Catwalk, and Smoke Screen.

And Lastly as part of a Secret Santa gift I got some Insta-Dris, Lightning, Lively Lilac, Brisk Blue and Whirlwind White. All great for Stamping :)

Did you get any polish for Christmas this year?
