Sally Girl Being Discontinued?

So it appears that spring has come back around again. No more Winter in April please!

This is actually a polish I wore around Easter but didn't feel the need to post with the weather the way it was. This is Sally Girl, Zing a Ding. I was lucky enough to find this on clearance, which the rest of the Sally Girl products looked to be on as well. It looks as though they may be discontinuing this brand, anyone know for sure?

Zing A Ding, what a name by the way, is a pastel lavendar creme with various sizes of matte white glitter suspended within. The formula was creat and easy to apply needed two coats for full opacity.

I don't think I have actually ever purchased a Sally Girl polish before. There was once instance I purchased the glow-in-the dark topper because I needed to add an extra $1 to my purchase to get a coupon or free gift or something!

That being said, I decided to try this polish out since it was cheap and pretty. I'm actually pretty impressed, both with the quality and amount needed for a full mani, however I do prefer the old bottles which held more product (5.3ml/.18 fl oz, compared to the new bottles, 4ml/.13 fl oz). that being said if they happen to be discontinuing this line I will have a closer look at what is available during my next Sally's visit.

Revlon/Sinful Colors Haul

Happy Friday and last long weekend of summer! I can't believe it is already SEPTEMBER! I have already noticed the days getting shorter :( I shouldn't complain though, for the most part this summer was great!

A few weeks ago I purchased some new Revlon and Sinful Colors polishes:

From left to right, Sinful Colors Galax-sea, Lively in Lilac and Blue La La.

Galax-Sea is a predominately green glitter (hex and irregular shards) sprinkled with orange iridescent square glitter, which is hard to see in the swatches below. One coat is shown in the swatch below.

Livaly in Lilac looks to be mostly purple glitter, however I have a feeling it is silver or gold glitter which appears to be purple due to the purple jelly base. Two coats are shown in the swatch below.

Blue La La is a soft blue periwinkle creme. Nothing super special about this share just really pretty. I suspect it may be similar to China Glaze Boho Blues. Two coats are shown in the swatch below.

Next up are the Revlons, left to right, Revlon Brazilian Beach, Edgy and Apricot Nectar.

Brazilian Beach is a soft copper and gold glitter in a nude base. As with the other polishes from the Haute Rocks collection, it has a "pebbled texture" AKA dries to a matte finish. One impressive coat is shown in the swatch below.

Edgy is made up of varying sizes of hex glitter and fine bar glitter in a deep purple jelly base. I was initially excited about this one, but it was kind of a mess. Two thicker coats are shown in the swatch below, should probably use thinner coats with this one to avoid thick and clumpy glitter on the nail. The base is also so dark you can hardly see the glitter.

Apricot Nectar is a pretty peach creme. Great formula and slightly scented when dry. Two coats are shown below.

While swatching I layered a coat of Brazilian Beach over Apricot Nectar. I really love this combo!

Which polishes are your favorite?

Haulin' - Revlon Edition

I have a quick haul to share with you today. I was shopping at one of my favorite outlet malls and came across some polish for 3 for $5. I told myself only three, but some of these shades I had never heard of before! My lovely boyfriend searched swatches for each one and I knew I had to double up!

Left to right is Revlon (Parfumerie) Italian Leather, (Colorstay) Provence and Elusive

Italian Leather is one of those polishes the had rave reviews so I decided to try it out for myself. It is a neutral brown creme with a gold shimmer. It also has a slight, sweet scent when it dries which I'm not too crazy about. One coat is shown in the swatch below, very good formula.

Provence is a light lilac creme and the first of the Colorstay to make it in to my collection. One coat is show in the swatch below.

Elusive is made up of green and blue glitter in various shapes and sizes in a black crelly base. It dries to a satin finish which dulls the beauty of the polish. I would definitely add a topcoat to this one. The formula was thin, two coats are shown in the swatch below.

The next three polishes are apart of the Haute Rocks collection. After doing some research online I found that these were actually released last year! I hadn't even heard of them, but apparently they are limited edition "pebbled textured" polishes. These are super dense glitters that dry to a satin/matte finish. The bottles looked super cool, almost like a mosaic, but since I had never heard of these polishes before I had my boyfriend look up some swatches before making up my decision on which ones I wanted. I decided on (left to right) Moroccan Oasis, Seychells Sand and Lana'l Lagoon.

Moroccan Oasis is the most complex of the three made up of blue, gold and lavender holo hex glitter with tiny blue micro glitter in a crelly white base. The formula was easy to work with and built up to full opacity. Two coats are shown in the swatch below.

Seychells Sand is made up of small hex gold holo glitter and larger glitter hex pieces in a light white crelly base. This one also was easy to work with and built up to opacity easily. Two coats are shown in the swatch below.

Lana'l Lagoon is made up of green, blue and silver glitter of various shapes and sizes in a blue crelly base. This one was a litter thinner than the previous too, you can see it is a little patch at two coats in the swatch below.

I was lucky enough to pick these up on sale and will have to check out the shop again the next time I am in the area.

March Haulin'

I have been pretty good lately and limiting my polish purchases. I did order a set of the China Glaze spring polishes, but that hasn't arrived yet...

Other than that collection (I just purchased the Road Trip Ready set), I have picked up some randoms during the month of March. I will start with a few I picked up while shopping across the boarder.

Revlon, Confident - a red jelly polish with red glitter in various shapes and sizes.

Funky Fingers, Sea Glass - A glitter topper with pastel blue, pink, white green and purple glitter in various shapes and sizes.

Next was an impulsive "sale" purchase... although most usually are...

I don't regret this one though, that's always good!
Nicole By OPI, On What Grounds - A bright pastel blue textured polish with darker blue and brown textured flecks.

It is really interesting. The texture is like stucco, which I hate in real life, but love in this polish. It is very similar to the texture used in China Glaze, Bump in the Night. What I love about Nicole by OPI's take on it us the addition of coloured "flecks" or pieces of whatever they have put in it to give it some extra depth. Very unique in my collection. It's as if a turquoise stone was ground in to tiny pieces.

Fall Haulin'

I haven't done too much hauling during the last few months, however I do have a few polishes I picked up more recently that are definitely with mentioning. First I'll start off with a random in the collection, Revlon, I'm Electro - Spiderman collection.

I'm Electro is a teal leaning blue with a medium duochrome effect. The duochrome effect is likely to be stronger when this polish is layered over a darker base. Two coats are shown in the swatch below, however, on the nail this would probably need three coats to reach full opacity.

Next are my picks from China Glaze's Apocalypse 2014 Halloween collection. Usually I wait until after Halloween to purchase these, but this year they seemed to be disappearing fast! I picked up these pretties the last week of October, Rest In Pieces, But of Corpse and Don't Let the Dead Bite. Love these names by the way!

Rest in Pieces is a multi-glitter topper. It it made up of various sized and shaped holo copper glitter and matte black hex glitter in a clear base. The formula is awesome, similar to the last few China Glaze glitters I have worn recently. Another blogger ( I can't recall who) reffered to this polish as "glittery hay", and I have to agree! Two coats are shown in my swatches below.

But of Corpse is such a unique polish, it's a yellow based green with tiny black matter glitter pieces that give the final look a textured polish. When dry, this has a satin/matte finish. This one reminds me of zombie flesh. Two coats are shown in the swatch bellow.

Don't Let the Dead Bite is another unique polish. It is a sheer nude crelly (creme based jelly) with muti-sized and shaped red glitter. This is super awesome, it looks as though vampires have literally bitten you to death! Two coats are shown in the swatches below.

So enough of Halloween already, right!? As you can see during my photoshoot we got our first real snow in Toronto! The first few snows are always nice in November and December. It's in January to March where I am sooooo over it! That being said, I'll move on to my holiday picks for 2014.

Next I have some holiday China Glaze polishes from the new Twinkle collection. Left to right, December to Remember and De-Light.

December to Remember is an interesting shade of blue. It's a beautiful shade on it's own, however the duochrome shift is was makes it special. Two coats are shown in the swatches below.

De-light is a gold glitter topper made up of various sized gold and holo glitter. Two coats are shown in my swatch below.

Orly surprised me this year with their winter Sparkle collection. I was only able to pick up one during my last trip to Sally's, however, I have hoping to pick up at least one more (Mirrorball... Droool)

Below I have Tinsel, plus a travel size Orly remover which is free with any Orly purchase during the month of November.

Tinsel is made up of long thin green holo bar glitters and red hex and micro glitter. This is a Christmas tree in a bottle! Two coats are shown in my swatch below. Not sure if you'd be able to get this opaque on it's own, but it is an awesome topper.

That is all for now! I have my eye on a few of OPI's from their latest collaboration with Gwen Stefani that I may want to get soon, and of course, if I come across Orly, Mirorball it will be mine!

Boo-gie Bats

Happy Friday! Halloween countdown: 1 week left! There is also only 1 week left to enter my Halloween giveaway here.

I finally pulled out my Bundle Monster holiday plates and created a simple but fun mani with a full nail bat design and Halloween themed glitter!

For this mani I used the following:

Base - Revlon Peach Nectar
Ring and thumb fingers - China Glaze Boo-gie Down
Bundle Monster plate - BM-H08

I applied two coats of Revlon, Peach Nectar over my base coat. Once that was dry I stamped some bats in black polish using Bundle Monster plate BM-H06 on three of my nails. For my ring finger and thumb nails I applied  a generous coat of China Glaze Boo-gie Down, a gorgeous mix of black, white, copper and gold glitters.

Boo-gie down is such an awesome glitter, I love it over the nude base. The colours remind me of sophisticated candy corn with yellow and orange replaced with shiny gold and copper. This is such a subtle and easy mani. I really love bold stamping over a nude base, especially when most nails are stamped, it's not so in your face or tacky.

DONT FORGET TO ENTER MY GIVEAWAY! It runs until the end of the month! You get to pick which set of nails files you like should you prefer a different colour

Polish Picks for Late Fall!

Finally, a short list of my fave polishes for fall! I meant to get this up earlier, however in September I was extending the wear of my summer polishes, and October was all about Halloween! November is the perfect month to rock some vampy fall shades before December when everything is snow and Christmas! Wow, where did this year go, it's almost December again!

I have so many fall polishes I love but I have narrowed it down to six different finishes with corresponding polishes for what I am loving this year. In no particular order here are my fall picks for 2013. You can click the link in the polish name to see the full posts I have on these polishes.

Creme - OPI, Skull and Glossbones

I love this light grey neural for fall. It has a great formula and looks simple and chic. A great base for glitter or nail art.

Shimmer - Revlon, Perplex

The taupe base in Perplex is another neutral, but the purple shimmer flash adds that something special. Another simply chic shade.

Texture - OPI, Get Your Number

A nice bright blue for fall, this Liquid Sands polish really reflects the cold weather we have been having lately! Full post to come soon on this shade.

Duochrome OPI, Peace Love and OPI

The duochrome flash from teal to purple is so sparkly in the bright sunlight and super cool looking in overcast skies.

Glitter - China Glaze, Emerald Sparkled

 photo IMGP7555_zpsb8080269.jpg

Usually used more as a festive shade for Winter, this glitter is so deep and sparkly, perfect for late fall.

Matte - Zoya, Dovima

How To Fix an Ick Mani

So my Revlon combo from yesterday didn't come out as I had envisioned. The unexpected mix in finishes really threw me off and I felt as though the shades were not really complementary. Have you ever found yourself in this situation? What would you do?

 photo IMGP6369_zps6ac7f5c0.jpg

I decided to play up Mint Gelato since I loved the colour so much, so I found a better contrasting colour that pairs up better with the real shade for a shimmery accent nail! I used a Deborah Lippmann dupe, Urban Outfitters Sea Dust. This is a sparkling green leaning teal foil-ish shimmer. Scattered within are small blue hex glitters, I think it was the perfect pairing!

 photo IMGP6378_zps58e6ce48.jpg

I applied two coats over Lemon Meringue on my ring fingers and was good to go! This polishes formula is awesome by the way, I will have to see what else they have the next time I am there for sure!

What have you done when a mani hasn't turned out exactly as you have planned?
