Tis' the Season for Tombstone Polish!

I have some more festive Halloween polish today, I think they will get more festive as the month goes on ;)

This is a Wet N' Wild Tombstone polish from a few years back, Black Magic, although I am pretty sure they brought this one back last year along with a few others. This is one of the two versions I own of Black Magic (the other is a multicoloured bar glitter). This version is a black creme base with teeny, tiny silver and orange glitters.

The glitter is very subtle, from afar it looks as though I am wearing just a regular black polish. The formula was excellent, smooth and even coverage in two coats. I'm sure if I applied a thicker coat at first I could have gotten away with just one coat, but I always prefer two thinner ones.

I am super impressed with the formula and wear of this polish. It got me excited for the Wet n' Wild 2014 tombstone polishes, unfortunately, I saw the display for the new collection last weekend and I am not really all that impressed, check it out below:

Standard creme brights/neons, black and glow in the dark. I'm also not a huge fan of the logo redesign and change to the fun tombstone caps. Although they are still shaped the same, they appear to be cheaper and not as eye catching.

I actually thought this was a rip off display from another brand! What do you think?

A Hot Mess Indeed

Happy Friday!

Today I have my attempt at covering up OPI, I Theodora You from my last post. I have this awesome milky sheer jelly polish with iridescent glitter and irregularly shaped gold glitter pieces that I knew would look perfect over this pink jelly. I was hoping the milky white base in Wet n' Wild's  Mountain High (collaboration polish line with Fergie) would blend in well with the slight streakiness of I Theodora You.

I have tried out Mountain High on it's own but it it way to sheer unless you want total visible nail line. It is quite pretty on it's own, and I know some people can pull it off, but my nails are just brutal this winter, not good to look at au natural at the moment! Anyways, this is one of those glitters you really have to dab on the nail to get a good amount on the nail. So I blobbed on one coat for each nail, and I love the outcome!

Super girly and pretty and it covered up the imperfections from the base polish... That is until it started to bubble! No luck with I Theodora you this time, such a shame. At least I had a day with this look, the bubbles kind of mixed in with the glitter, but it just bothered me to the point of removal.

It was pretty while it lasted :)

One last note before the weekend, inspired by Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's day, for the Month of March I will be sporting green and purple on my nails exclusively. I am doing this on my own but if you'd like to join me let me know, I'd be happy to link your blog in my March posts if your are interested.

Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween! One my my favourite holidays of the year, can't believe it is finally here!  As a kid one of my favourite thing about Halloween was trick or treating, free candy! To celebrate I have created some trick or treat nails with China Glaze Texture, Bump in the Night and Wet n'Wild Fantasy Makers, Creepy Pumpkin. I stamped a fun candy design from Bundle Monster Plate, BM-306. I have had the combo of Creepy Pumpkin and the graphic from plate BM-306 in black since the beginning of October, and I love it!

Fun Polish Picks for Halloween!

Halloween is almost here! Are you looking for that perfect polish to wear in celebration of tricks, treats and all that is spooky!? Today I have a short list of my some of my favorite Halloween polishes at the moment! Let's get started, in no particular order:

OPI, Zom-body to Love - Glow-in-the Dark
Out of the many glow in the dark polishes I own this one has a special place in my heart. I love the same, I love the shade, although sheer, and the glow effect is awesome! I layered this over Essie, Mojito Madness last Halloween and it matched perfectly and added a little sparkle from the glowy particles in the polish!

Del Sol, Trick or Treat - Solar Changing Glitter

This colour changing polish is so awesome whether in the sun or shade. Normally this is an orange jelly with orange and silver holo glitter. But once the UV ray's hit it, it changes to a deep blackened plum! Such a great colour combo and change, my favorite out of all the Del Sol's I have seen and own.

China Glaze, Zombie Zest  - Jelly Glass Fleck

Another great green. This one is an olive jelly with multi changing glass fleck pieces. The flakie particles shift from an olive green to gold and at some angles a teal blue! The name describes this polish perfectly.

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, Pumpkin Spice - Jelly Glitter

This was an unexpected beauty for me. All the blogs raved about it, but I didn't think it was special, I own so many similar polishes, so I thought. It's the merky darkened brown jelly and square copper orange glitter that really make it a stand out from the other black base orange glitter polishes available. I own a backup of this now hard to find polish. If I could I would wear it for all of October!

Wet n' Wild Fast Dry, Tangled In My Web -  Glitter
This black glitter is comprised of  medium black matte hex glitter in a clear base, this is a geat topper for any polish, but for Halloween I love it over orange or white. It's great over spiderweb nails too to act as little spiders in the web ;)

I wanted to include the new China Glaze Halloween polishes in this list but unfortunately they did not arrive in time to to wear or even photograph and swatch. Something to look forward to for next year :) I usually end up doing that, buying Halloween polishes after Halloween when they are on sale and wearing them the following year!

Glitter and Goodies

Today I have a polish I had coveted for so long, Sephora by OPI, If You've Got It, Haunt It! I finally found it last year on clearance for $6 at Sephora and am super glad I did since all of the $OPI polishes have now been discontinued. A tip for finding some polishes you may have missed out on is to check your local Marshalls. I took a trip across the boarder over the weekend and came across single polishes and a three pack, that was at a quick glance! I also found some singles and minis at a Marshalls in Canada too, so keep a look out.

If You've Got It, Haunt It is a silver grey based glitter with a sheer jelly grey base. The glitter is very dense in this one, mostly silver micro glitter sprinkled with matte black glitter and micro holo glitter/prismatic glitter that shifts between green blue and purple. So unique! The jelly built up well and only two coats were needed for full opacity.

On my ring finger I used Wet n' Wild Fantasy Makers, Creapy Pumpkin. This is a sheer jelly orange with orange/yellow shimmer. This polish is fairly sheer, but I only needed three coats for full opacity.

Loving this combo of glitter and shimmer, nail art to follow ;)

Halloween and Christmas Glitter Polish Haul - Picture Heavy!

I love, love, LOVE Halloween, and was super excited to find this years compilation of pumpkin polishes at Rite Aid during my trip across the border over the weekend. Not only did I find some fun Halloween polishes, but some awesome Christmas ones too! Isn't that crazy, it's barely October and Christmas collections are out.

I'll start off with my Halloween finds, I got two glitter pumpkin polishes, I found these in the Halloween section, not the beauty section of Rite Aid. The first is a coper orange and black glitter. This one is mostly made up of orange micro, bar and hex glitter with matte black bar glitter sprinkled in. It looks to be very dense in the bottle considering the base is clear. Can't wait to try this one out!

The second pumpkin polish I picked up is made up of silver holo and black matte hex glitter in a clear base. Just one size of glitter in this polish. In the this bottle it looks like a disco ball, so glittery!

These glitters are awesome, but the density of the glitters is not the greatest, I applied the polish to my nail wheel in a dabbing motion, one quick swipe did not supply much glitter as I had hoped. The best thing about this purchase was the price, these were marked on the display as $2.99. I was bummed out at first since they have been cheaper in previous years, but when the cashier rang them in they came in at $1.99 each!! I'm not sure if it was because I used my wellness card, but I saw no promo signs or anything around the display.

Now on to some Christmas polishes, the first actually reminds me more of Halloween than Christmas, this is Sinful Colors, Unwrap Me. This is a very densely packed glitter polish made up of magenta red hex glitter and matte black micro and hex glitter in a clear base.

The next polish from Sinful Colors is Holiday Rebel which is made up of silver holo hex glitter, red small and medium sized hex glitter and green small hex and micro glitter. Lots of glitter going on!

Both of these glitters are super dense, great glitter formulas and even coverage without having to fish for glitter of blob on layers of polish.

The last holiday polish I purchased is apart of Wet n' Wild's Fergie line. All Wet n' Wild products are marked as 40% off with your wellness card :) The shade I picked is Mountain High.

New Wet 'n Wild Glitters + Which ones I purchased

I was in the States over the weekend and I checked out Rite Aid, which by the way has a lot of polish related promos going on right now. If you buy $30 worth of polish with your Wellness card you get some mega points, plus there are some online coupons on their site for Sally Hansen, L'Oreal and Revlon.

The Rite Aid I have been frequenting particularly never really kept up with the latest polish displays, however this trip surprised me. Not only did they have an abundance of polish displays, I spotted one I have never heard of before! This is Wet n' Wilds Hot Rocks collection.

As you can see the display looked pretty picked over, so I'm not sure if there are any other colours in this collection but I spotted the following:

- Quartz of Course: purple hex glitter with small gold glitter

- Caught on Sapphire: blue hex glitter with a teal/magenta shimmer

- 18K Gold: gold holographic hex and bar glitter

- Emerald the Crown Jewel: green reflective hex glitter with smaller green glitter 

- Rocking Rubies: red hex and regular sized glitter

- Penny For Your Thoughts: orange holo hex glitter with an orange shimmer

The last two I listed, the red and orange are eerily similar to Orly's Glitter FX collection, specifically Blaze (the red glitter, Rocking Rubies) and Penny For Your Thoughts (the orange glitter). The two I picked up were the blue and green, Emerald the Crown Jewel and Caught on Sapphire.

I almost picked up the gold because it reminded  me of Orly's Sachet My Way, but the bar glitter was too thick for me.  

Both of these polishes are jam packed with glitter and applies really well! I didn't know what to expect, but I am impressed with these so far! My swatches below are two coats each. Blotting was used to help evenly distribute and direct glitter on the nail.

J-E-L-L-O - Fail or Win?

Happy Friday! I don't know how to feel about my latest mani. I used two really cool polishes but am not sure it was right to use them together! I started off with American Apparel Zuma Beach, which is a kiwi green jelly, this is apart of their "Sheer" collection of polishes. American Apparel polishes rarely disappoint and Zuma Beach was no exception. This has got to be one of the best jelly formulas I have ever come across!

It applies mostly sheer in one coat, but builds up nicely with two coats. Three coats gives full coverage. I wish I had taken a photo of my nails with Zuma Beach on it's own, but I decided to do a jelly sandwich! My glitter of choice? Wet n' Wild School of Pyrotechnics, a limited edition multi-coloured hex glitter released last summer.

The formula on School of Pyrotechnics was a bit weird, the clear base was a little runny, which is better than being too thick, however I found it took a bit of effort to get the glitter in the nail. Using the blotting method I tried my best to apply as much glitter as I could. I added the glitter over two coats of Zuma Beach, then added one last coat of School of Pyrotechnics to sandwich it in!

At first it kind of reminded me of jello with fruit suspended within, but once I noticed how kiwi the colour was in different lighting I regretted not using a black glitter for kiwi nails! I'm still not sure how I feel about the mani as a whole. I do really like Zuma Beach though, such an effortless glossy jelly. What do you think, yay or nay?

Promos and Hauls

I've heard of some great deals, promos and finds lately at U.S retailers, most of those I have found on Nouveau Cheap. I love that blog! Since I was heading across the boarder a couple of weekends ago I hoped to be lucky enough to participate in some great finds which included:

So, what did I end up getting? No polish at all from the States!! Big Lots didn't have what I was looking for, however they did have some nice sets of Sally Hanson Salon and Hard as Nails polishes for reasonable prices, none really interested me unfortunately. Sallys didn't have the Orly glitters I was hoping to find either :( And Ulta I didn't even have time for!

So why write a post, right? Well there were actually some good promos for polish at some Canadian retailers. The Superstore in particular had a few going on including $3.95 for their full stock of all Revlon polishes ( including those new "gel" shine ones in the different bottles that usually go for $8-$9) and $4.95 for Sally Hanson's Salon line of Salon polishes.

At first glance. Didn't see anything that caught my eye, but on the way out of the cosmetics section I found some Revlon's I've never heard of before, they must be new. They are scented as well :) I picked up Mint Gelato and Lemon Meringue which smell like chocolate mint and lemony sweet! Do you know what collection this is apart of? As an extra bonus I had two $1 off coupons, so each polish was only $2.95 each! Woohoo!

I have one more polish to share that I got a week or two ago that I had nothing else to post with, this is School of Pyrotechnics from Wet n' Wild which was apart of their recent summer glitter collection, Stars and Stripes.
